The referents : privileged and additional interlocutors of the traditional structures

The traditional interlocutors of young researchers are the doctoral advisor, the director of the graduate school, the team leader and the director of the laboratory.

The referents are interlocutors of another type for young researchers. They will offer you advice facilitated by a generational and geographical closeness as well as by the absence of link of subordination and an independence with regard to your research work.

Examples of advice provided :

  • building a project ;
  • organizing an event ;
  • looking for placement or training ;
  • helping you overcome doubts and difficulties in the course of your research ;
  • helping you with your career prospects ;
  • improving your working environment ;
  • etc.

Whom to contact ? When ? How ?

List of referents :

You can write freely to any of the researchers listed above, by following possibly some recommendations :

  • the geographical closeness often facilitates the exchanges ;
  • do not hesitate to contact a referent from another team or another laboratory, to broaden your horizons ;
  • do not hesitate to contact a referent as soon as possible, in an informal way and to engage in dialog ; it is easy and does not commit you to anything.

You can contact the referents by email, telephone or by going and to see them. Their address and phone number appear on their web page and in the directory on the site of their laboratory.
